When I recently wrote about Centerville's Community Garage Sale and the following Operation Clean Sweep free bulk pick up, enumerating the variety of discarded items found curbside, Centerville resident Julie Miller took issue with the column.

"I think it is very sad news when our community would rather throw all their unwanted, unneeded stuff in our trash dumps rather than potentially sell it or even give it away," she emailed me. "I do recognize that there is plenty of 'junk' out there that no one wants, but when I walked through the Centerville neighborhoods last week and saw a pair of perfectly good kitchen chairs being thrown away, multiple toilets waiting for the trash truck, and even half- full paint cans that had been dumped all over the street, I thought that there's got to be a better place for this stuff."
