As it enters the last six weeks of its fundraising campaign, the United Way of the Greater Dayton Area is hoping individuals and companies will open their pocketbooks to donate the nearly $800,000 needed to reach the $9 million goal set for 2010.

Mary Fessler, marketing director for the local United Way, said the sluggish economy, the loss of large employers in the community and a slower start-up in workplace campaigns have been setbacks in reaching the goal.
