DAYTON -- Aviation enthusiasts and business and education leaders want to create an educational camp designed to attract young students to careers in science and engineering, particularly in support of aeronautics.

It would build on Dayton's birthplace of aviation heritage and existing programs such as the "space camp" program affiliated with the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Ala., said Vince Russo, executive adviser to University of Dayton President Daniel Curran, two of the initiative's leaders. It also would build on discussions and a study done a few years ago by local proponents of the idea, Russo said.
