Taft: Ethanol Plant 'Historic Project' for State ; $118 Million Operation to Be Built in Greenville Will Accelerate Use of Alternative Fuel, Governor Says.

Summary

GREENVILLE -- Gov. Bob Taft on Monday touted an ethanol plant under construction in this city's industrial park as a "historic project" whose business of turning corn into fuel would help wean a nation that's "dangerously dependent on foreign oil."

The governor's remarks came during the groundbreaking for the ethanol plant, a $118 million joint venture between Marathon Oil Co. and Maumeebased the Andersons, Inc. The plant will employ 40 people and have a capacity of 110 million gallons of ethanol. It's Ohio's fifth ethanol plant to break ground recently, and is expected to be built in 12 to 14 months.
