SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County -- The Ryals family of Sugarcreek Twp. played a special part in this year's National Veterans Day observances Nov. 11 in Birmingham, Ala., with their horse at the center of the festivities.

Raven, the Ryals' 6-year-old quarter horse mare, served as the black riderless horse in tribute to past military personnel who have died serving their country.
