COLUMBUS -- There are some golden needles in Ohio's haystack of gloomy economic news, and Gov. Ted Strickland did his best to find all of them in his fourth State of the State speech Tuesday, Jan. 26.

It's an election year, so the governor's effort to both boost Ohioans' spirits and enhance his political future delighted fellow Democrats. His effort drew predictable boos from Republicans who hope he won't be presiding next year.
