TIPP CITY--Jason Salyer is one of the top high school distance runners in the state. He is also a talented student journalist who covers sports part time for his local alternative newspaper -- the Tipp Independent -- and plans to make a career of it.

"Jason is someone who has worked extremely hard the past four years to put himself in the position that he is in," said Steve Verhoff, Tippecanoe High School distance coach.
