Remember Oscar Madison and Felix Ungar of "The Odd Couple?" Well, Fat Tuesday and Ash Wednesday are the odd couple of Christian observances. Although they share consecutive days on the calendar, they are as opposite as opposites can be: Fat Tuesday is Oscar Madison -- the slob who imbibes too much, smokes too much and parties too much. Ash Wednesday, on the other hand, is Felix Ungar - - straight as an arrow, honest and orderly.
