Punk Blues Trio Black Owls Gains a Following

Summary


Ohio Amish country is not generally thought of as a fertile area for raucous rock bands. However, Black Owls, a selfprofessed punk blues trio from Granville, Ohio, has found the region a great place to perfect its gritty blend of '60s garage rock, Chicago blues, indie rock and '70s punk.

"We're a little bit isolated out here but it's worked out well for us," drummer-vocalist David Butler said. "We have a bar here in town we play. It's all the local kids and Dennison University students that come and see us. There will be like 200 or 300 kids on a Friday night and there will be like 50 or 60 people dancing. It's really weird."
