Premier Paid Dearly for Anthem Rift, Tax Records Show

DAYTON -- Recently filed tax returns show just how hard Premier Health Partners' 2005 break from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plans hammered the hospital network's bottom line.

Good Samaritan Hospital's net income fell to an $8 million deficit in 2005, a 139 percent drop from the previous year, the hospital's federal tax returns show. Miami Valley Hospital's net income plunged to just $304,770, a 99 percent drop from 2004. Middletown Regional Hospital's net income dropped 43 percent to $8.6 million.
