DAYTON -- The notion that music at its heart is a form of prayer came forward in a profound way Friday evening at the Schuster Center, as the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra presented a Classical Series program dedicated to the fifth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The "9/11 Remembrance" concert featured three works, each of which had textual components of a sacred nature: Olivier Messiaen's L'Ascension (1932-33), David Conte's September Sun (2002) and Gabriel Faure's Requiem (1893).
