G iven the instrumental makeup of the guest ensemble for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra's opening Classical Concert Series program this week, one might expect that the orchestra intended to start off the year with a big bang.
Nexus, a five-member percussion group based in Toronto, is coming to town to play a piece that it premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1990. But the work, composed by Toru Takemitsu specifically for the members of Nexus, is anything but bombastic, says Bill Cahn, a member of the quintet since its founding in 1971.See the full content of this document
