XENIA -- Joyce Osburn always loved that new textbook smell. "As a student, I can remember getting a brand-new textbook and they smell so much better," said Osburn, who is retiring at the end of December as curriculum secretary for Xenia City Schools. "They were cleaner, and to be the first one to put your name in the front, that's kind of fun." Ordering new textbooks was a big part of Osburn's duties during her 33 years with the district.

"I just get so much joy from knowing that the students would have new books to open up when school starts," she said. "I still love my job. I still love coming to work. I just feel like it's time for someone else to come in and take off where I left off."
