Ohio's Division of Wildlife folks are trying to put a positive spin on it, but for some reason the number of whitetail deer killed by hunters on Monday -- opening day of the deer gun season -- dropped from last year. And last year was down from the year before.
It might not mean much that a couple thousand fewer deer were taken on one day in 2004 than in 2003 (40,254 vs. 43,052), except that all predictions pointed to bigtime records being set this year.See the full content of this document
