FRESNO, Calif. -- Not all high school sophomores need a smartphone to keep track of their travel schedule. But the much- lauded violinist Chad Hoopes, 16, who performs the Tchaikovsky violin concerto this weekend with the Fresno Philharmonic, isn't a regular teenager by a longshot.

After winning first prize in the young arts division at the prestigious 2008 Menuhin Competition in Cardiff, Wales, Hoopes got snatched up by musical powerhouse talent agency IMG, which represents Itzhak Perlman and Joshua Bell.
