The Ohio Department of Transportation hasn't studied how much of the $1.5 billion in annual repairs to Ohio's highways and bridges is caused by overweight trucks, but hopes to do so soon.

Still, ODOT is mindful of Gov. Ted Strickland's recent directive to state government to be as supportive of businesses as possible, spokesman Scott Varner said. Ohio's steel industry ranks second in the nation, with 34,000 workers earning an average annual salary of $59,000.
