Re "Ex-official of USAF museum gets jail term, must pay $29K," April 21: This article contained some disturbing comments attributed to the sentencing judge, Walter Rice. If the reporter quoted his honor correctly, Rice referred to the museum's management staff as "absolutely and totally incompetent."
I spent more than three decades on the staff and, since I retired a few years ago from the position of chief curator/deputy director, I presumably must be considered as an incompetent along with my colleagues. Ironically I had always taken pride in knowing that almost without exception the others in management positions with whom I worked were dedicated, thoroughly professional, and completely honest. I wonder how the museum made such major forward strides over the last several decades if we were so inefficient.See the full content of this document
