In 2002, about 250 plugged-in people got in on the ground floor of what would become boldest fundraising event around: Masquerage. That year, $16,000 was raised for AIDS Research Center Ohio, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing services for those affected by and at risk for HIV/AIDS.

In 2003, word began to spread, and 400 people raised $32,000. The next year, attendance topped 600, with $79,000 raised; in 2005, the money hit $103,000, while the attendance topped 750.
