COLUMBUS -- Railroad enthusiasts are hustling to meet an Oct. 2 deadline to apply for $250 million to $400 million in federal stimulus money to establish passenger rail service between Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus and Cleveland.

"There is a lot of competition out there. There are 40 states who announced their intention to apply for the federal funding," said Stu Nicholson, spokesman for the Ohio Rail Development Commission.
