Local Quake Victim Remembered for Her Joy

BEAVERCREEK -- Rachel Conley had decided against a tattoo on her last day in New Zealand, but gave her close friend Jackie Kinder her blessing to get hers. "Approved," she said, simulating an imaginary hand stamp, one of her trademark gestures.

"I want you to know those were her last words, and she was a very happy person," Kinder told mourners at an emotional funeral service Monday night for the 27-yearold Beavercreek woman, the only American confirmed dead in the 6.3-magnitude earthquake that hit Christchurch, New Zealand, on Feb. 22. Conley was killed when the building facade and awning of the Southern Ink tattoo shop crashed down on her.
