LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Steve Hatton started working at 6 p.m., sweeping the sawdust, cleaning every corner and generally stressing himself silly. It was April 2001, a Thursday, the day before the Kentucky Basketball Academy would welcome the state Amateur Athletic Union 11-and-under tournament as its maiden experience.

"You're wondering if the scoreboards will work," said Hatton, relaxing in KBA's midday quiet last week. "You're thinking, 'Will the ball go through the hoop? Will the bleachers collapse?' But, it worked, and we've been going strong ever since."
