DAYTON -- Erika Leonardo arrived at a doctor's appointment on the morning of Dec. 30 expecting that her baby's due date would remain Jan. 17. But she hasn't left the hospital since, and she gave birth to the first Miami Valley baby of 2009.

After enduring labor for 36 hours, Leonardo gave birth to 7- pound, 20-inch Alisson Josemaria Leonardo at 1:06 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 1, to become the area's first new mother of the year.
