JEFFERSON TWP., Montgomery County -- If you've ever wondered whether that antique passed down through the family is jewel or junk, you need wait no longer. Learning Tree Farm will have its annual antiques appraisal from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Carillon Historical Park, 1000 Carillon Blvd., Dayton. Admission is free, but appraisals cost $5 per item or three for $10. Sally Keyes, co-director of Learning Tree Farm, says the indoor setting is both "comfortable and entertaining" and seating is available while you wait. Well-known area appraisers will be on hand for the event, which is similar to the popular PBS program Antiques Roadshow. The appraisers are: Larry Hyatt for dolls and toys. Frank Miller for books, documents and special papers. Ellen Branigan for china, glass and silver. Gloria Phillips for antique jewelry, primitives and general antiques. Howard Reams for NCR items. Mike Hennessey will offer an Ohio postcard swap, a new event. Keyes said the event, one of Learning Tree Farm's two big annual fundraisers, began when a Germantown man appraised chairs during a weekend event.
"It was well-attended and it was the most popular of the special events that we did," she said.See the full content of this document
