DAYTON -- Reducing seasonal hiring and rearranging the workflow in several key departments will save about 44 city of Dayton employees from a midyear layoff.

In November, city leaders announced that 66 employees would lose their jobs due to declining revenue, with an additional 46 unfilled positions also being eliminated. The 2010 budget that goes before the City Commission for a first reading on Feb. 17, abolishes 22 filled and 63 vacant positions.
