Lewis Davis, an early pioneer of Greene County, was gifted in land surveying and development, but his thirst for corn in its liquid state led to his demise.

Davis was the only son of Owen Davis, the miller, and the brother- in-law of Benjamin Whiteman, one of the first judges of the county.
