FAIRBORN -- When Colonel, the Big Brown Dog, gave Michael Neff a gentle nudge, the 5-year-old hit the floor, face down and pretended to be a log.

The other children participating in the Fairborn Community Library program soon followed Michael's example. Their efforts drew a salute from Colonel, who actually is local veterinarian Dr. Michael Horton in costume.
