KETTERING -- Janet Hicks isn't getting around as easily after recent knee surgery, but she said there was nothing that could keep her away from Kettering's annual Police Memorial Service on May 11, where former officers like her late husband Bill Hicks were honored.

Police welcomed about 75 people, including city employees and families of former officers, to a ceremony that featured a color guard, prayers, a reading of the names of departed officers and staff, plus a 21-gun salute. The ceremony was part of National Police Week, which is observed May 9-15.
