DAYTON -- Judging for the third annual Gingerbread Homes for the Holidays contest came to its sweet conclusion late last month as 35 houses were considered for awards. The Gingerbread Homes for the Holidays contest was sponsored by Elder-Beerman/Bon-Ton, WMMX-FM (Mix 107.7) and Times Community Newspapers. Sarah Crews of Centerville won as Professional Best in Show. Sharon Ochs, also of Centerville, earned second place in adult amateur. The entries were then put on display at the Old Courthouse in downtown Dayton during the Grande Illumination festivities Nov. 23 and again Nov. 25, in conjunction with the Dayton Children's Parade. Entries ranged from traditional gingerbread houses to a tiki hut, a pirate ship and Mount Vernon, the home of George Washington. Gingerbread contest winners
