MIAMISBURG -- The deepspace mission that successfully landed a probe on Saturn's most mysterious moon would not have been possible without a plutonium-fueled generator built in Miamisburg, the man who invented the exotic fuel said Friday.

Bernard Kokenge, a retired Mound scientist and West Carrollton native, said the Cassini spacecraft that carried the probe is powered by a generator that turns the heat of decaying plutonium into electrical power. The radioisotope thermoelectric generator -- RTG for short -- has powered Cassini's electronic systems since its launch in 1997.
