Making plays: Replacing a Heisman Trophy winner is a challenge in itself, but OSU lost three more playmakers along with Troy Smith. New QB Todd Boeckman is surrounded by some weapons, but he's inexperienced and hasn't shown Smith's knack for salvaging broken plays. Kicking game: OSU began preseason camp with few worries on special teams, but sophomore kicker Aaron Pettrey had a slump and lost his job to 28-year-old junior Ryan Pretorius. After five straight years of superior kicking, field goals might be dicey. On the line: Departed defensive tackles Quinn Pitcock and David Patterson provided grunt work that went largely unnoticed, eating up blockers to allow the linebackers to roam free.
