In a note to the Dayton-based Shook Construction's Hurricane Katrina Relief Team, Dennis Dahmer wrote, "Your crew of chain saw- wielding and equipment-operating volunteers literally and figuratively helped to remove some major impediments to returning to some sort of normal life after Hurricane Katrina."

The Shook team returned home Oct. 8 after a week of volunteering in Hattiesburg, Miss., where they assisted in ongoing relief efforts in the region. The 14-member team made the trip to the Gulf Coast a month after Hurricane Katrina paralyzed the region.
