I always figured that the Speak Up comments and letters to the editor on the op-ed page of the Dayton Daily News had more than performed their civic duty by providing an ample sounding board for the vitriolic, hyperbolic and intolerant among us. God, Government and Atheists
This silly and inane essay would simply be an insult to the intelligence of the DDN readers if it weren't so ill-conceived. The holes in Gustafson's argument run far and wide, but perhaps the single biggest distraction he attempts to posit is the "fact" of our Founding Fathers' Christian faith. Whether his assertion is true or not is largely irrelevant, but for the time being let's assume it is.
