BATH TWP., Greene County -- A federal proposal that could restrict antibiotics and other drugs to livestock has Tom Pitstick concerned about the health of the hogs and cows he raises on his farm -- and the costs to consumers and farmers, too.

The Food and Drug Administration is readying new guidelines on farm animal drugs to reduce what it calls serious threats to human health, in particular the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in humans linked to meat from treated livestock.
