Summary


It was a "magical" visit to the Paul Laurence Dunbar State Memorial that provided the necessary inspiration.

"My book had gone through a lot of different formats, but it didn't really have focus till I started volunteering at the Dunbar House," says author Lucy King Perez, who was so impressed with her visit to the historic home that she signed up to work as a volunteer. Today, she's president of the Dunbareans -- the museum's volunteer organization.
