DAYTON -- A week of intense heat and four days of canceled classes do not have city school leaders rethinking a school calendar that begins in early August.

The district is committed to a longer school calendar because its leaders believe it helps kids learn, school board President Yvonne Isaacs said. And they believe the problem of bad weather will be resolved as new schools are built over the next three years.
