Summary


Raising children can be difficult and frustrating at times. How can you get help when things are not going well with your child? Some parents are uncertain whether their child's problems are really that serious and concerned about the stigma of seeking mental health treatment. They may be embarrassed to ask friends or their family doctor about how to go about obtaining mental health assistance. For routine childhood problems, most parents do not need professional help. There are lots of other excellent resources readily available.

- Your spouse. I am frequently surprised by the absence of communication between parents about child rearing, even in good marriages. When problems arise, many parents voice their frustrations, but then continue managing the situation on their own. However, when your children have serious problems, they need a coordinated and consistent approach by both parents.
