Domestic Violence Increase Linked to Economy, Chief Says

BELLBROOK -- An increase in domestic disputes and domestic violence calls in the city in the past few years can be attributed in many cases to the hard economic times, Bellbrook police Chief David Helling told City Council in his 2010 annual police report to the city last week.

"We continue to see an increase over the last five years," Helling said. Domestic violence/domestic disputes calls increased from 42 in 2006, to 50 in 2007, 66 in 2008, 71 in 2009, to 73 in 2010, he said. With today's economics people get upset over many money-type issues, he said. "It's an easy way to get to a violent situation."
