DAYTON -- The figure of the country's first famous pops conductor will be on the podium this weekend when the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra presents its next pair of SuperPops concerts at the Schuster Perfoming Arts Center.

A beloved band leader, a prolific composer and the country's annointed "March King," John Philip Sousa was as big in his time as any rock star is today. Maybe bigger, because he had so little competition. And while his death in 1932 decidedly prohibits his actually taking the podium tonight and Saturday, his spirit will be represented in the body of Keith Brion, who has made a second career of re-creating the Sousa experience in concert settings around the world.
