In "The Turnaround Kid" -- a book that probably won't be a best- seller in Dayton -- Robert "Steve" Miller, Delphi executive chairman, seems to want it any way that pleases him.

Miller presents himself as a thoroughgoing capitalist, writing at one point, "By nature and education, I was a free marketer who favored Darwinian competition on a global scale." Yet, he recounts how at the helm of struggling businesses he repeatedly turned to government -- Congress, bankruptcy courts, trade agencies -- for help in shrugging off debt and more nimble competitors.
