DAYTON -- An upscale Oregon District restaurant hit by credit card hackers in a sneak attack says it shut the crooks out as soon as it realized something was wrong and is now secure from future attacks.

Harry Trubounis, general manager for SideBar 410, 410 E. Fifth St., said Thursday the restaurant took the extra step of emailing notices to 1,250 customers in its database alerting them to the hacking. The sophisticated attack was revealed to the restaurant Monday. Earlier in August, a law enforcement-related group had a going-away party at the restaurant. Some used credit cards. When statements became available, clearly bogus charges showed up. Members of the group figured out that the visit to the restaurant was the common factor preceding the fraud. The extent of the hacking is still being examined, said Trubounis.
