DAYTON -- Fireworks will be booming in Miami Valley communities this Fourth of July despite the recession. Some communities, however, say their displays may be shorter than in years past as a result of the economy. Others claim they've negotiated more boom for fewer bucks.
- The city of Dayton has steadily reduced its Independence Day fireworks spending over the last four years. In 2005, the city paid about $85,000 for its annual July 3rd show. On Wednesday, May 6, the Dayton City Commission approved a two-year contract with Pennsylvania-based Pyrotecnico Fireworks for $72,000 per year.See the full content of this document
