CLAYTON -- In nine years of Scouting, Sam Rowley learned a lot more than simply tying a square knot ... for which a Northmont High School classmate is quite thankful.

Sam and Nick Heitkamp were taking a break Feb. 3, 2007, from a Science Olympiad invitational at Solon High School, outside of Columbus. The team was kicking back with candy and board games when Heitkamp began choking.
