Bueno Basketball ; Spain has Been Good for Former Flyer

Summary

Keith Waleskowski, "Mr. 9-to-5," led the University of Dayton Flyers in rebounding four straight years and finished his career with 1,092 boards -- the sixth highest total in school history. With 1,524 points, the 6-foot-8 forward is 17th on UD's all-time scoring list. During his playing career (2000-04), Dayton had a record of 90- 39 and played in the postseason all four years.

Last season the 1999 Alter High graduate played pro basketball in Spain for Calefacciones Farho, a team sponsored by a heating company in the fishing village of Gijon (pronounced Hee-HONE) on the north coast. Farho is in the LEB1 League, the second-ranked level in Spain. Waleskowski and his wife, Chrissy, a former UD women's basketball player from Cincinnati, lived in an apartment two blocks from the ocean. The Farho team played one game a week, usually on Saturday, and the team practiced every other day except Sunday. Waleskowski said the money is good enough that he could see himself playing in Europe for several years.
