SUGARCREEK TWP., Greene County -- When Bellbrook resident Lillian Zoller volunteered to start a chess club at Bell Creek Elementary School for fourth- and fifthgraders in September, she had no idea how quickly the program would grow.

The fifth-grade team placed third in the state tournament, the K- 12 Ohio Scholastic Chess Championships, and the novice team placed 10th of 25 teams in the USCF National Scholastic Chess Tournament in Nashville, Tenn.
