If downtown Dayton was a wall, the Century Bar at 10 S. Jefferson St. would be the proverbial hole in it.

A classic watering hole in a long, lean building, the bar feels more like something you'd find in New York or Chicago -- a holdover from an earlier era. The most spectacular thing about the C-Bar (as my parents' friends always called it) is the bar itself. Allegedly rescued from a Cincinnati opera house, the ornate piece of architectural history is worth sitting down to at least once in your life. Carved of warm, dark wood and glowing softly with stained glass, it dominates and anchors the room.
