DAYTON -- In the week following the Fourth of July at local retail stores, the red, white and blue gave way to Cornflower, Hot Magenta and Atomic Tangerine. Dayton resident Charmaine White, whose 6-year-old daughter starts Dayton Academy tomorrow, was shopping Tuesday in the Trotwood Wal-Mart for the last item on her schoolsupply list: A steno notebook.
Dressed in flip-flops like she was heading to the pool instead of contemplating crayons, White said she had started shopping two weeks ago. She still wasn't finished. "I can't wait until the week before school," she said. "You can't wait that long, not anymore."
