Dayton Amateur Softball Hall of Fame Inducts 5 Members, Sponsor

Summary

The softball season for most teams came to an official end Sept. 9 with the Dayton Amateur Softball Commission's annual championship recognition picnic and hall of fame induction.

There are still fall leagues going on -- die-hards playing indoor slowpitch in the winter, and snowbirds playing senior league in Florida, Texas, Arizona and California. But most of the usually busy diamonds are either empty or part of a soccer field in multiused fields. At its picnic, DASC inducted five individuals and one sponsor in the hall of fame. The individuals were: Ted Mong of Greenville, a pitcher/ first baseman who played mainly with Poelking Lanes and National Lanes; the late John "Slim" Robinsion, a pitcher with several teams including Delco and the Westside Merchants; Sherynne King of Dayton, who played with numerous women's teams in her 20-year career; Peggy Middleton of Beavercreek, a power hitter with Beau Townsend Ford and MVP of the 2001 state women's tournament; and Ron Jackson, a sports writer with the Dayton Daily News who has covered softball for 30 years.
