MIAMI TWP., Montgomery County -- Corporate purchase and use of aircraft to fly business executives to meetings is sometimes criticized as excessive, most recently when General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. pledged to sell their planes as their executives asked Congress to approve a taxpayer bailout.

But there is still interest in aircraft ownership among small and large companies that want to efficiently manage their executives' travel and avoid the high cost of airline tickets for business trips that must be arranged on short notice, said Phil Roberts, a former National Business Aviation Association board chairman. Executives can make better use of their time with aircraft availability shaped to their schedules, he said.
