DAYTON -- Smoke filled the air of several Dayton-area sanctuaries last week as congregations burned last year's Palm Sunday leaves in preparation for today, the beginning of the 40-day season of Lent.
"Ash Wednesday and Lent are huge for me," said University of Dayton marketing director, Tim Bete, author of In The Beginning There Were No Diapers. "Last Sunday, my parish and the church next door joined together for the ashburning ceremony. We burned last year's palms into ashes.
