Neighborhood Groups Making Fixes Without Waiting On City Hall

DAYTON -- Three Dayton neighborhood groups aren't waiting for a handout from City Hall to launch redevelopment projects in their residential communities desperate for revitalization. These quasi-government groups are exploring self-taxing schemes to fund projects, securing thousands of dollars in grants or lobbying the city for an opportunity to use funding tools that up to now were reserved for commercial developments.

Tool and Die Firms Look to Minorities ; Industry Working with Groups to Recruit More Blacks Into the Skilled Tool Trade.

DAYTON -- To be honest, 27-year-old Tyrone Cummings didn't know much about the tool and die industry before a Dayton Urban League counselor told him about the Step II training program at Sinclair Community College. "It's just something we (blacks) don't get into because we don't know about it," Cummings said.
